Greenville is the county seat of Pitt County. It is the principal city of the Greenville Metropolitan Area and the 11th most populous city in North Carolina. It is the home of East Carolina University, ECU School of Dental Medicine, and Brody School of Medicine. In addition, Vidant Medical Center, encompassing the James and Connie Maynard Children's Hospital, the Heart Institute and Cancer Center are also located in Greenville.
